Dragon Boat Festival - China
September 24, 2016The Dragon Boat Festival is a day lunar festival, celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month (end of May or early June).
People have careers in boats shaped dragons. The races are an "attempt" to save poet Chu Yuan (340 - 277BC), who committed suicide by tying a stone to his body and jump in the river. People throw bamboo leaves stuffed with rice cooked in water to attract fish to the body of the poet.
This ritual created the custom of eating tzungtzu- rice balls with meat, peanuts and other deposits wrapped in bamboo leaves during the Dragon Boat Festival.
