Spring Festival - Chinese New Year :

  Chinese New Year, or Spring Festival, is the most important traditional festival and public holiday in China. The celebrations begin on the first day of the first Chinese month (late January or early February) and the last 15 days. 

 On the eve of New Year, Chinese families thoroughly clean their homes to symbolize the corresponding shipping old year and welcome the new, because in the dust and dirt of Chinese culture represent "old".
family dinners are held on the eve of New Year. The buildings are decorated with red lanterns and couplets for the festival because in Chinese culture red represents good fortune and happiness.

  People gather in large seats to hear the sound of a large bell announcing the end of the old year and the beginning of the new. The Chinese believe that the sound of the bell causes bad luck.

Fireworks are another part of the celebration. Although banned in large cities, small towns and villages still hold to this tradition.

  The first day of Spring Festival people wear new clothes and greet family and friends. Younger generations visiting the elderly and wish you health, prosperity and long life. Parents and elders give children "lucky money" in red envelopes for good luck.
During the days of the Spring Festival, dragon and lion dances and other traditional performances are a common sight on the streets.
